Out and About in Quy Nhon with Nicky

Out and About in Quy Nhon with Nicky 16 – 19 October 2008

It was great to see my friend Nicky when she arrived at the Quy Nhon airport. Over the next three days we enjoyed talking, watching, walking, biking, eating and coffees around the city and surrounds of Quy Nhon.

Nick bought with her all sorts of amazing gifts, early childhood resources and food from home. She also bought with her my replacement camera. In the week before she came my old Canon gave up the ghost and started taking only completely black pictures – this gave me the perfect excuse to splash out and get the digital SLR that I have been hankering after for a long time. It is a Sony A350 that comes with all sorts of bells and whistles that I am still learning to use. One of the best things about it is that it is compatible with the lenses from our old film cameras.

Despite the predictions that she would arrive in the middle of our rainy season the weather was kind to us and we were able to enjoy some of the local sights. Most of the photos above were taken when we went for a bike and walk through one of the local communes. I continue to enjoy the rice paddies. Most of the rice is now harvested but some of them were again flooded with water creating lovely reflections. When we stopped to photograph a group of buffalo who were clearly enjoying a respite from work they became increasingly interested in us and came, suspiciously sniffing the breeze to catch our scent, closer and closer until we decided that it might be prudent to move out of their way.
