The Bahnar Dance at the Festival - 1 August 2008

Even here Uncle Ho was included!

A picture of the traditional Bahnar house that has been relocated to the site -I took this on a previous visit. More photos of this building were included in my earlier blog about our orientation trip

The Bahnar Dance at the Festival - 1 August 2008

At the festival opening at the Tay Son museum people from one of the local ethnic groups, the Bahnar, performed beside their wonderful house. Repeatedly they circled the sculptural poles that were traditionally used for buffalo sacrifice, rythmically moving to the beat of their graduated gongs and a drum that was suspended between poles carried on the shoulders of four young women.

Their graceful movements and beautiful traditional costumes were glorious. This was one of my favourite parts of the festival.

Hi Robyn
Wow! what a gorgeous set of photos - I have loved looking through them.

I am keen to keep a copy of your workshop experiences - the give some wonderful snapshots of the problems of teaching within another culture.
this is a short response - need to see of it actually gets to you first.
